Incidence and management of Bell’s palsy in peripheral facial paralysis cases

Background: The underlying pathophysiology observed in cases of Bell’s palsy is vascular distension, inflammation and oedema with ischaemia the facial nerve. Various causes have been proposed including viral, inflammatory, autoimmune vascular. aim this study was to evaluate incidence clinical presentation among North Indian patients.Methods: A randomized prospective observational carried out department otorhinolaryngology head neck surgery, CHC, Chenani, Udhampur, on 60 patients, who presented nerve over a period one year from August 2019 July 2020. Patients were evaluated using House-Brackman scale (HBS) studied relation incidence, associated symptoms, percentage recovery effect treatment rate recurrence.Results: Of patients palsy, 44 diagnosed palsy. 16 (37.5%) grade II, 9 (14.6%) III, 11 (31.3%) IV, 7 V 1 (2.0%) patient VI at onset. 21 (47.73%) had postauricular pain (15.90%) hearing changes (phonophobia) during attack. 35 (79.54%) recovered normal, while (20.46%) did not return normal life till end follow up period. Out total 84.09% recovered, recurrence also very low 4.54%.Conclusions: significant number fully condition; however, eye protection remains crucial preventing long-term complications.
